In 2020, Congress designated the 988 dial code to be operated through the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline in an effort to provide FREE and CONFIDENTIAL support to students and adults experiencing suicidal crisis or emotional distress.

When to call the Lifeline

You can call the text, call, or chat the Lifeline any time 24/7 to talk about any problem you're dealing with such as depression, loneliness, relationships, mental and/or physical illness.
